About me
I'm Vadim Zelenov, a PL/SQL developer and data engineer with over 6 years of hands-on experience building backend systems for the insurance and advertising industries. I specialize in Oracle PL/SQL, ETL pipelines, REST/SOAP API integration, and performance optimization.
My journey is unconventional. I began my career as an optical engineer, studying at Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen, Germany, where I earned a Master's in Advanced Optical Technologies with a grade of 1.5 (Very Good). I conducted research at Robert Bosch on gas jet characterization and visualization — a world of lasers, Schlieren optics, and Matlab post-processing.
That scientific rigor — measuring, optimizing, debugging physical phenomena — translated naturally into software. I pivoted to data engineering, joining Publicis Groupe to automate advertising reports using Oracle PL/SQL and Excel VBA. Then I spent 6+ years at Absolut Insurance (Absolut Technologies), building and maintaining PL/SQL containers for insurance products, writing API methods for partner integrations, and serving as release manager.
I'm meticulous about code standards, passionate about performance optimization, and experienced in driving discussions about improvements — technical and organizational alike.
